Merton's historic environment is an important element of the character, cultural heritage and identity of the Borough.
- There is a collection of museums and galleries to be enjoyed, including Wandle Industrial Museum, Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum, Wimbledon Society Museum of Local History and the Heritage and Local Studies Centre.
- The Baitful Futuh Mosque opened in Morden in 2003 and is known for being the largest Mosque in Western Europe.
- The Buddhapadipa Temple in Wimbledon was the first Buddhist Temple in the United Kingdom and is one of only two outside Asia. It was built for the purpose of passing on theoretical and practical Buddhist teachings in Europe.
- Merton Abbey Mills, a craft village on the river Wandle, is housed in the former Liberty silk- printing works, by the restored waterwheel. There is a bustling weekend market, pretty shops, a riverside pub and a wide range of food outlets including Caribbean, Thai, Italian, Brazilian and also a traditional carvery, threaded throughout the craft village.
